Class Description:
Amazingly simple technique results in simply amazing quilts! Take a look at log cabin designs from a whole new angle as designed by Sara Nephew in collaboration with Marci Baker. Choose specific fabrics or cut up your scraps and paint with strips. It is such a simple concept that you will want to make more than one! In class, you will learn how to make the basic units, triangles and diamonds. From there you can make every project in the book and even design your own simply amazing quilt.
Supplies:
• Not Your Grandmother’s Log Cabin (either 1st or 2nd edition) – available at class OR Log Cabin Star e-pattern by Marci Baker and Sara Nephew, available from C&T Publishing at ctpub.com. Print this out for class.
• Rotary cutter, ruler (6” x 12”), and mat
• 60 degree, 10″ or 12″ Clearview™ Triangle, recommended – available at class. The 8” or Sup 60 Clearview rulers will also work with slight adjustment.
• Sewing machine with basic accessories
• Thread (medium gray or beige)
• Piece of flannel or batting for design wall, 2’ x 3’ – optional
Fabric Selection and Preparation for Class: Star (dark blue) – 1/2 yd of one fabric or combination up to 1/8 yd each of 6 fabrics
Center pinwheel/snow flake (med blue) – 1/2 yd of one fabric or combination up to 1/8 yd each of 6 fabrics
Background behind star (white/light blue) – 1/2 yd of one fabric or combination up to 1/8 yd each of 6 fabrics
Hexagon (medium-dark blue) – 1/2 yd of one fabric or combination up to 1/8 yd each of 6 fabrics
For each of the four sections, Star, Center, Background, and Hexagon, cut (6) 1 1/2’’ strips
If you can pre-cut the strips as listed you will be ready to jump right in. However, don’t stress if your time is limited. I will show methods that can catch you up quickly.
